I need your discipline, I need your strength -NIN

I just started using Lift to track my habits. So far it’s a great little app and fairly intuitive. I’m tracking running, writing blog posts, doing nice things for my husband, meditation, a daily gratitude journal, and eating vegan before 6 pm. It’s fun and getting the props, as well as the congratulatory emails, is a nice boost. Definitely the best designed app of it’s kind out there.

I’ve been thinking a lot about habits since I read The Power of Habit, and it has interesting implications not only for my personal life but also UX. As UX designers if we can create and sustain healthy habits in folks we can truly make a difference in their lives. It’s not an easy thing to pull off though.

I think for me the healthy habits I’ve been able to sustain were the ones where I had friends practicing along with me. And not just friends but very close friends who I connect with in person frequently. Can an app do the same thing for me? Only time will tell, follow me on Lift!
