Last night I attended an amazing event run by UPA NYC. Luke Wroblewski gave a presentation on designing for mobile first. He shared stats that show that mobile will overtake desktops and laptops very shortly, and talked about how many people in the world only utilize mobile devices. He then went into how the constraints of the small screen and varied screen sizes force you to choose what is most important and cut out the clutter. He then talked about how innovative you can be when designing for mobile because we can find out exactly where in the world the person is, what direction they’re facing, we can use touch, augmented reality, the list went on. Oh and the kicker of the night is he doesn’t recommend wireframes and shuns lorem ipsum and boxes for images, which is so interesting because I really do think prototyping is the way to go with mobile. I’m so excited for his book Mobile First, which is coming out on Monday.
